HOW we do it
We employ our own proprietary Design methodology.
We see the world from a different perspective: every object around has has its genesis in design; someone somewhere, sometime, sat down and designed it.
At the other end of the spectrum, there’s the end user. The individual who uses and interacts with the product; these individuals have an experience based on their own individuality, their state of mind, the context, as well as the product itself.
And in the middle, between the original design, and the end user, there are countless other individuals that affect and are affected by the product: from the production chain to the distribution chain to where the product is going to be used.
We design with these 3 elements always top of mind:
- the experience,
- the individual(s)
- and the context.
Our methodology starts with a blank slate, no preconceived notions, an inquiring Don’t Know Mind akin to the mind of the child who is investigating a new object, or a new environment for the very first time. A genuine curiosity to discover and explore what makes things work, the experience of the individuals engaged with their environment. We view products and services that we create as solutions to human problems problems, solutions that enhance lives, and make the world a better place.
We investigate the problem facing the intended end users, we see… feel… touch… taste… smell… sense… the problem from their perspective; then we move on to investigate the experience from the perspective of an observers, as if we were within the same context but without direct involvement, this time evaluating the experience indirectly.
Next we analyze who are the individuals involved in the problem at hand, their roles, and their vested interests in the status quo. With their perspective, we continue the investigation of their experiences of the problem within their individual context, and within the overall system.
Once we have a thorough understanding of the problem with empirical experiences, documentation, data, and notations; from all points of view of the individuals involved, we start the interactive process of prototyping as design, continuing and repeating the process of investigating the multiple individual experiences both from a subjective point of view and from the point of view of the network of individuals as a whole.
In short, we investigate in depth the problem, so that the solution itself will surface naturally.
We designed our own company, and we are still designing it, keeping in mind the experience of the people who are involved in it at all levels: founders, employees, consultants, collaborators, advisors, vendors, service providers, clients, peers, neighbors, and friends.
We live and breathe design every day, in every aspect of our lives, because we believe that:
“Design is something that you are, not something that you do”.
Keywords: unorthodox, unconventional, ever evolving, contextual, experiential, non-linear.
TL;DR: we investigate in depth the problem, so that the solution itself will surface naturally.
